Meet Michael:husband father friendtriathleteultrarunner coach:racing the limit

BACKGROUND:
I’m a proud father, husband, and member of the Royal Air Force, committed to pushing limits—both mine and those of the athletes I coach.
Over the past decade, I’ve experienced the highs of elite performance and the challenges of personal setbacks. From difficult life choices to battling injuries, I found strength in family, friends, and a relentless drive to improve. That mindset led me to target the RAF Ironman record, going from an 11-hour debut to multiple sub-9 hour finishes, achieving an 8-hour 35-minute Ironman, and meeting my goal of a sub-1hr swim, sub-5hr bike, and sub-3hr marathon. A journey that culminated in a strong performance at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Beyond racing, my passion is coaching and athlete development. I’ve worked with world-leading specialists, including Red Bull’s advanced performance team, RAF specialists, and cutting-edge technology experts, refining high-performance strategies for endurance athletes. I’ve led thousands of swim, bike, and run sessions, coached athletes of all levels, and taken training camps across the UK and Europe. In 2024, we founded NiceTriJuniors, a club dedicated to developing young athletes, and I’m proud to serve as Lead Coach – Distance Running, RAF Athletics.
I’m qualified as a British Triathlon Personal Coach and UKA Endurance Specialist and hold a BSc in Computer Science, specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Intelligence & Security. My analytical background enhances my coaching approach, combining data-driven insights with real-world experience to optimise performance and unlock potential.
For me, coaching isn’t just about results—it’s about helping others push past limits and achieve their ambitions. I’ve overcome setbacks, from a broken back to pulmonary embolisms and mental health struggles, and I’ve learned that growth happens at the edge of discomfort.
Eventually, I’ll back-blog my adventures—from mountains to races across the world. Maybe you’ll find something in there to inspire your own journey.
